My Teenagers Experience
Personal Growth
How I have changed since I started high school
My experience on Friday, July 4th here in Ecuador, at the school Unidad Educativa Bilingüe Educamundo, was very special because we celebrate this important date from the United States.
In my classroom, we organized a parade with the most iconic people from the USA. At the beginning, there was a discussion about who wanted to be who, but later we organized well and decided who would be each person. In my case, I had to be one of the most important people the first president of the USA, George Washington, between 1789 and 1797, and also the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. In the United States, he is called the father of the country.
The costume was hard to get because I thought I had what I needed at home, but it was not true. So I had to go with my mom to look for and buy a costume for the day. When we arrived at the store, they told us there were only costumes for kids, not for adults. Then they gave me one for 8-year-old kids to try, and it was very big on me.
On the day of the parade, I tried it on again, but I felt a bit uncomfortable and silly, sadly. But in the end, I told myself to stay positive and not feel bad.
So when I saw my classmates with their costumes, it made me feel a little better. Also, when we started going from class to class so others could see us, it was fun. But to be honest, I felt a bit shy because of my costume. I didn’t want people outside my class to see me wearing it, because I feel more comfortable with my classmates than with other people at school. I felt a little invisible, but I liked watching how others were having fun. It was nice, in a way. I’m still not used to this change, and I still miss my old classmates. I connected better with them than with the ones I have now, but I like them too. Let’s say they behave better compared to the students at my old school.
